Chesapeake Bay Foundation With its founding in 1967, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) became the only regional conservation organization committed solely to Saving the Bay. CBF works throughout the vast 64,000-square mile Chesapeake Bay watershed to defend the public’s right to clean water, protect Bay wildlife, and bolster our economy. Our programs of advocacy, education, restoration, and litigation benefit each and every one of the 17 million people and 3,000 species of plants and animals that call the watershed home.

From wreaths grown on organic farms in Northern California to artisan-crafted recycled glassware from Mexico and bowls created from sustainable tree farms in Thailand, this season we’re inspired by products with purpose that celebrate true sustainability.
Set your table in style with unique, handcrafted pieces that elevate a simple dinner with friends to something remarkable.
Forested Woods
Sustainable wood protects biodiversity, water quality and the land. We find certified or sustainable wood products that have positive environmental histories, from start to finish, including many certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
From mango wood harvested at the end of its fruiting life to teak from slow-growth sustainable plantations to overgrowths of acacia, our wood is from sustainable sources. Some are FSC certified; others are fair-trade and support local farmers and economies.
This is the story of sustainability. Looking at how each piece fits in the whole picture, and choosing the path that best preserves the planet.
Handblown Glass
We're on a rescue mission!
Instead of going to a landfill, old soda bottles are rescued and transformed. Using techniques passed down through generations, skilled artisans handblow the broken and melted pieces into amazing new treasures.
The results are jewel-like glassware that is simply stunning and stylishly sustainable.

This is truly the moment in time for the Chesapeake Bay. For the first time in the 30-year history of Bay restoration, there is a clear plan, the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint, that, if implemented, will restore local waterways and the Chesapeake Bay. But, all could be lost if clean-water opponents succeed. CBF is standing up to every challenge. Together, we will make clean water a reality in the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams—ensuring a healthy Bay for generations to come.

Streamside forests play a critical role in the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams—filtering pollutants and helping prevent soil erosion. Since 1997, with the help of thousands of volunteers, CBF has planted more than 2.5 million native trees and shrubs along streams to improve water quality.

We all benefit from clean water, and we all have a role in saving the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams. CBF partners with farmers, volunteers, local government, and many others in communities across the region to improve water quality. From planting trees, underwater grasses, and oysters, to advocating for clean-water policies, and picking up trash and other debris during our annual Clean the Bay Day—none of CBF’s work would be possible without the community’s support.

Year after year, CBF’s 15 environmental education programs offer tens of thousands of students, teachers, adults, and school administrators a hands-on learning experience like no other. While exploring nature on foot or by canoe or boat, participants learn how their actions impact local waterways and what they can do to save the Bay. CBF’s environmental education program is the largest in the country, serving more than 1 million since 1973.
