The bambeco brand and Susan Aplin cannot be separated. Born of a culmination of a successful career at premium retail brands and a lifelong love for the outdoors, bambeco embodies Susan’s passion for the planet and for making the world better for all who inhabit it.

Susan Aplin

Susan’s career spans 25 years and has included some of the best known and respected premium retail brands in the industry, such as Williams Sonoma, Inc., The Gap, The Sports Authority, and Staples. Her experience encompasses key executive roles in Merchandising, E-Commerce and Catalog, Supply Chain, Operations, and Mergers and Acquisitions.

Affirming her vision and leadership, Susan (and bambeco) have received numerous accolades, including being named as top CEO in 2012 by SmartCEO Brava Awards, bambeco named to Internet Retailer's HOT 100, and nominated for top Luxury Sustainability Brand. In 2012, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley recognized Susan and bambeco in his State of the State for her great work in Maryland. Susan and bambeco continue to be recognized for measurable contributions to sustainability, innovation, leadership, and philanthropy.

At the helm of bambeco, Susan’s multi-faceted contribution is evidenced in a fluid combination of keen business acumen and creativity. Leading with the mantra of, “changing the world, one room at a time,” Susan shapes all facets of bambeco’s multi-dimensional personality including sustainability principles and messages, driving innovation and sales, customer and e-commerce experience, product development, and investor relations.

Susan attributes her unwavering success and bambeco’s profound acceptance in the marketplace to two distinct “Ah Ha” moments:

In 2002, during a business flight with Williams-Sonoma Founder Chuck Williams, Williams shared, “If you love what you do, the world will fall in love with you.”

In 2008, Susan was standing on a dramatically receding glacier. (see Our Story). What she saw transformed her life and caused the idea to create bambeco.

When she’s not in her eco-chic office Susan can be found enjoying the Chesapeake Bay, cycling, running, hiking or spending time with friends and family and her beloved Boston Terrier, Isla.

With a career spanning more than 30 years in large to early stage companies, Carolyn is best known for leveraging business and new technologies to advance social mission.

In partnership with organizations such as NASA, Harvard, Discovery Networks, Comcast, and the US Department of Education, she has led groundbreaking initiatives that changed the way students learn via improved technology and content offerings. She brings that same spirit to driving innovations that allow bambeco to change the way consumers shop for, understand, and purchase environmentally responsible products.

Carolyn’s love for education is matched by her passion for the environment. Pushing this juxtaposition forward is Carolyn’s focus, as bambeco educates and empowers customers to evolve sustainability from a principle into a practical and vibrant way of living through products with purpose.

Carolyn spends as much time as possible outdoors, and loves to hike, kayak, run and bike. She is a marathoner and triathlete, and her newest joy is racing log canoes on the Chesapeake Bay, which is a perfect marriage of speed and water. She loves to work with kids, especially around reading and the outdoors.

Deborah Baldini

As Chief Creative Officer for bambeco, Deborah is passionate about leading change through innovative and transformative brand experiences. With extensive experience spanning more than 25 years in retail, e-commerce, merchandising, brand management, new business development, and supply chain management for companies such as Levi Strauss & Co., Deborah brings strong leadership in building and leading world-class brands.

Deborah earned her MBA from the Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley, renowned for its development of innovative leaders and corporate sustainability.

One of Deborah’s greatest joys is spending time outdoors… on the water, in the vineyards, or on the mountaintop and she rarely misses swimming laps each morning before meeting the demands of the day.

“I am inspired by those around me who are changing the world on a daily basis,” shares Deborah. “We can all make a measurable difference in how we choose to edify the world and live on this planet we inhabit.”

Throughout his career, Rick has built a strong reputation for innovation, leadership, and team building. With extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, public and private corporate finance, sales and operations technology, and manufacturing, Rick’s senior executive experience is well suited to assist in leading bambeco’s financing initiatives.

Rick’s unmatched background as CFO, leading multiple venture and private equity companies, has honed a rare operational financial depth critical to guiding highly dynamic growth cycles of this leading-edge company.

Rick's passion for life also shows up on the basketball court and on the streets as a serial 5k runner.

Arthur Viente

Combining his passions for the outdoors with expertise in retail buying and product development, Arthur began his career at Britches Great Outdoors. Working with pioneers in the outdoor industry, such as The North Face, Sierra Designs, and Patagonia, Arthur gained an early appreciation for authenticity in a brand. In discovering bambeco and becoming a part of the team, Arthur has rekindled his passion for business and found a new home where the message behind the brand carries forward into the product and lifestyle.

With over 30 years of experience, Arthur’s diverse career includes business development in both the retail and wholesale channel. He believes business is reflective of life, always changing. His focus on continued education and adaptation serves to shepherd businesses through each aspect of the natural life cycle. As an innovator in his field, Arthur pioneered the development of e-commerce as an integrated solution in retail when he developed the first e-commerce site for Modell’s Sporting Goods in New York City. With involvement in multiple e-commerce sites and systems, Arthur’s expertise in every aspect of a product’s lifestyle has made him invaluable in the development of B2C and B2B businesses.

Arthur is an outdoor enthusiast, seeking new adventures and opportunities to explore and experience the world around him. As an avid skier, biker, hiker and backpacker, Arthur believes in the saying, “take only memories, leave only footprints.” His personal passions provided the platform for his career, and he continues to seek symmetry in his work/life relationship.

SANDER ETH

Sander is no stranger to Fortune 500 companies. Upon graduating from Tufts University with a degree in Economics, Sander began his career at Staples, Inc. and over the next 24 years served in many facets of the organization as part of a dynamic team instrumental in growing the organization from start up to a Fortune 500 company.

Eager to apply his wide range of supply chain, retail operations, e-commerce, inventory management, and merchandising experience to a new venture, Sander joined bambeco in 2012. His comprehensive supply chain management expertise is instrumental in refining bambeco’s processes.

Sander enjoys cycling, cross-country skiing, hiking, and kayaking. He is passionate about his involvement with Gift of Life Foundation and Cradles to Crayons, which provides the essentials for healthy and happy childhoods for homeless children.

“Being on the forefront of driving real change in carbon reductions across supply chain allows me to intersect my experience throughout my career with a personal passion to improve the environment”, says Sander. “It’s great to work with smart and experienced people, but the real gift is to be surrounded by passionate colleagues.”
